Good or bad, people put on their best show for social media. It is something about social media that makes people put on some kind of show. Whether it is screaming & fighting or “stunting for the gram” or just plain being a drama queen. Either way, don’t let other people constantly put you on an emotional rollercoaster. Follow uplifting people on social media. Follow people that make you feel good and content with your life. Don’t go overboard with self-improvement influencers. While self-improvement is a good thing, too much self-improvement talk can make you ungrateful for your life and make you not appreciate who you already are.
Purge social media accounts that:
- Make you jealous
- Excite anger or hate
- Cause envy or lust
- Make you ungrateful
- Cause greed
I remember in a bible study group the leader went over “a reason, a season, and a lifetime.” It is something that I will never forget. Everyone in your life is not meant to stay with you for every journey. People really do grow apart and their “season” is over with. Only a few people are meant to be with you for a lifetime.
Cancel relationships that are:
- Have run its course
What we watch on television really does affect us. They don’t call it television programing for nothing. If you keep watching something long enough you will start to see changes in yourself, good or bad. Think about it. Don’t you get creeped out after watching a scary movie? You see a funny movie and you laugh. You see a sad movie and you cry. That’s because it had a mental effect on you. Be careful of what you are exposing your spirit to.
Eliminate television shows that:
- Don’t align with your values
- Cause you envy or dissatisfaction with your life
- Are hateful or politically charged
- Are unrealistic reality shows
Music has just as much as an impact on our emotions as television. Everything from the musical beats to the actual lyrics can have an effect on your mind and body. Certain music gets you hyped up, some are soothing, and some make you want to dance. We all know certain songs make a break up just that more devasting. We all know sports arenas play music to hype up the crowd. The DJ at a club or party knows what music to play to control the crowd. Be your own DJ and monitor the type of music you listen to.
Eliminate music that is:
- Promotes greed
- Promotes lasciviousness
Bad habits are hard to break. Some habits may even require seeing a mental health professional. If you have a bad habit that is affecting your health (mental or physical), spirit, or relationships, seek help. Life is long, but it is also short. You do not want to waste one minute destroying yourself or those that you love.
Stop bad habits that:
- Strain good relationships
- Take too much time away from family and friends
- Waste money
- Destroy your health
- Cause distress
