As I stated in my introductory post, this is a reboot of my previous blog also entitled The Gospelnista. Since starting back blogging, I have spent a lot of time promoting on Pinterest and Instagram. The Gospelnista is not my only blog by the way. I have another one I have been working on since earlier this year. Since my recent go at it with blogging i have found out some things, and I though I would share some of my experiences.
For starters, social media is HARD! I mean really hard. Seriously hard. I have taken courses and researched online and it is still hard. I think that there is just some many people out there that it is hard to get attention. Don’t get me wrong, I have gotten some likes and a few followers, but the work it took to get those was a lot.
With that being said, I have found that I like Pinterest more than Instagram. I like Pinterest just for my own personal use so why not use it for my blog. I liked Instagram personally before Facebook bought it. Now its just not the same. I was never really a Facebook fan once it became overwhelmingly popular that your average grandma was on it. I hope Pinterest stays the same. But I digress. Working social media is hard. People say use hashtags and there is a strategy for that but it is nothing that you will see amazing overnight results with. You definitely have to pay to play. I tried using hashtags of various sizes but I haven’t paid for a promoted post on Instagram yet. But I am considering it.
Speaking of social media. You are really putting yourself out there when you do social media. Both of my blogs are pretty new. The Gospelnista Instagram account stayed up from last time, but even still, once I started posting again…..people do try to sell you something. The other account was no exception either.
People will reach out to you and try to get you to buy there product or use there services. On some level I get wanting to reach out directly (except the one with the adult site), but it is still on some level inappropriate to me. I just feel that if you are going to DM someone, you should establish a relationship with them before you ask something from them. Direct messaging me is like cold calling me. Seriously, I don’t know you from a can of paint. I don’t want to give you money if I don’t know you like that. Social media is tricky in the sense that anyone is allowed to open up a social media account. How am I supposed to know you are not a crook. You must build some type of rapport, and even then it is risky.
Also, bots are a real thing. I still do not understand how some bot way across the world has managed to find my blog, but my ideal reader has not yet. That is so crazy to me. Seriously, how do these bots know that I am out there? I am going to install some SPAM plugins this weekend on my blogs. Hopefully, that will do the trick. From my research, SPAM affects pretty much all bloggers so at least I am not alone in that fight. But seriously, how do the bots do it?
Even with all of this, I am enjoying the process. I love blogging and I wish I had never stopped. I learn something new on this journey almost everyday. I find it so fulfilling. The Goseplnista is truly near to my heart because it was my first blog. I started The Gospelnista when I was younger because I originally wanted to document my journey of getting to know Christ better. It reminds me of so many fond memories. I am glad for the chance to bring it back.
