Morning Routine

A Small Habit That Made My Mornings Calmer

Mornings used to be especially rough for me. It’s not easy getting your kid ready and rushing off to school.  But one small tweak to my morning routine made all the difference.

And guess what it was.

I woke up earlier.

Now I know what you’re thinking.

Yes, of course, waking up earlier would help.

But let me explain further.

Rushing in the mornings was hard and stressful. I felt like my son and I were always running late and getting to our destination just in the nick of time.  I knew something had to change.  So, I decided to wake both of us up earlier, and that made a world of difference for us.

I found that when I woke my son up earlier, he had his own morning time. He was able to play a quick video game, watch a YouTube video, or sit and eat his breakfast in peace.

Doing this resulted in a smoother transition to school. Now that he’s older, we’re just in the habit of getting up earlier.

In addition to praying in the morning, I recently started meditating.  It prepares me for the day, because I start the day off with peace. You don’t have to subscribe to New Age ideology to meditate.  Just take a few moments to relax and reflect.

I also enjoy drinking a cup of coffee or talking with my husband before we both start our day.

Waking up earlier can be hard at first. However, the more you do it, the better it gets.

So how about you?  Have you tried waking up earlier?  Let me know in the comments below.

This habit is one of the small changes that helped me feel more peaceful this January.
