As a child, Saturdays were always the best because there was cereal and Saturday morning cartoons. As I got older, Saturdays meant even more fun: shopping and going places.
Then, I became an adult. And somehow, Saturdays became errand day.
I don’t know when this transition occurred, but I decided to take back my Saturdays.
Now, Saturdays are for sipping coffee slowly and relaxing. I love picking a movie or binge-watching a television series. Some Saturdays, we will go out to eat as a family. In the evenings, my husband and I will pick a movie to watch at home.
I love that Saturdays are a treat, and not a day to cram in all of the errands that I didn’t get to do earlier during the week. I have reclaimed my day of fun. I refuse to feel guilty about resting and enjoying my family.
We live in a culture of hustle and bustle. Everyone is angry, stressed, and in a hurry. I am so glad that I am in a season of patience and slowing things down. Reclaiming my Saturdays is a reflection of that. Slow and fun Saturdays have become a part of my self-care, and I wish I had done it sooner.
So, what about you? Are Saturdays your errand day? Or do you relax and unwind?
