Things I Did This January That Gave Me Peace and Rest

In a world that feels loud, chaotic, and uncertain, I’ve been more intentional about protecting my peace. This January, I made a few small but meaningful shifts that helped me feel more rested, mentally and emotionally.

Here’s what worked for me:

1. I stopped glorifying hustle.
Instead of constantly thinking about what’s next, I chose to spend more time with my husband and son. Stepping back reminded me to enjoy the life I’m living right now, not just the one I’m working toward. Time is something you don’t get back, and that perspective alone brought a lot of peace.

2. I stopped shaming myself over food.
If I ate a cookie or some chips, I didn’t spiral. I’m making small, sustainable changes toward a healthier lifestyle, and I’m allowing myself to move at my own pace. That grace has been surprisingly freeing.

3. I became more aware of my worry patterns.
This was a big one for me. I tend to worry as a way of trying to control outcomes. This month, I actively reminded myself that worry doesn’t equal control; it just creates stress. I’ve been practicing meditation (not the New Age religious kind) and gently redirecting my thoughts when anxiety creeps in. That mindset shift came from another blogger I enjoy, and it’s helped more than I expected.

4. I gave the big things over to God.
I believe God can handle anything, but this season required me to truly let go and let Him take over. This step is tied closely to my anxiety, but on a deeper level. Without my faith, I honestly don’t think I’d be experiencing the peace I feel right now.

5. I practiced gratitude for what I already have.
When I see a big, beautiful home online, I remind myself: You have a beautiful home too. Life has taught me that watering your own grass brings contentment, and that mindset has been incredibly grounding.

I’m learning that you can find joy in life regardless of your circumstances.  You just have to learn to cherish the good things.

What are you doing to manage stress lately?
Are you trying any of these this month?
