If you’re like me, you always end up overpacking. You’re lugging around all this stuff, and then you have to drag it all the way back home. You do this because you’re not sure what you will need for each occasion. So, you end up packing a whole lot of things that you didn’t even need, and now you have a heavy suitcase.
However, you can pack light without sacrificing your style. You have to be intentional about the items you bring. Here’s how I keep my packing simple and stress-free without sacrificing style.
Simple Color Palette
First, you want to start with a simple color palette. You want all your pieces to mix and match easily. The best way to do this is to pick 2 to 3 neutral colors, such as black, beige, and white denim. Then, choose one accent color. This creates multiple outfits with fewer pieces. It also eliminates decision fatigue.
Multi-Use Pieces
You want every item of clothing to coordinate with multiple pieces. For instance, with a dress you can pair it with either sneakers or sandals. So, you can do both a day and night look with the dress. Or you can do a button-down top that you can wear alone or layer it over a T-shirt. The goal is to avoid single-use outfits.
Choose Shoes Wisely
Next, you want to limit your shoes. Shoes take up the most space in luggage, and they’re also heavy. So, you want to have one casual pair, such as sneakers, and one dressy pair, such as sandals or flats. You can also you can bring flip-flops as an option because they don’t take that much space. Shoes can make a breaking outfit, so you want to make sure that the shoes are nice and can coordinate with multiple outfits.
Smart Layers and Outerwear
You also want to layer smart instead of packing bulky items. Pack a lightweight jacket, such as a denim jacket or blazer, a cardigan, or a wrap. It works because denim jackets can go with both dresses and cargo pants and T-shirts. This helps you adapt to weather changes, and these items can elevate even the simplest outfits.
Light Accessories
When it comes to accessories, you want to keep it simple, such as sunglasses, light jewelry, and a neutral handbag that matches everything. This way, you still look polished.
Plan Ahead
You want to lay out your outfits ahead of time. You can even take photos on your phone. This helps you avoid wasted space and the stress of not having the right items on your trip.
Leave this at Home
And last, but not least, here’s what not to pack. Do not pack “maybe outfits.” Also, avoid heavy items like heavy jackets, extra handbags, and items that don’t match multiple looks. Don’t pack “just in case” outfits either.
In conclusion, packing light equals less stress and less clutter. But you can still be put together. You don’t have to pack your whole closet. You just need to pack the right items from your closet
